You'll see most beautiful lakes in Altai: Karakol, Kazan-kol, Shavlinsky lakes, Karakabak lakes. Also, you'll have radial trekking to the glacier.
Shawlinski lakes are one of the most beautiful places of Gorny Altai. They are located in the heart of the North-Chuya range. In the valley of lakes rise glaciers peaks "Dream", "Fairy Tale", "Beauty". Which are, like in a mirror, reflected in the emerald water of the Shawlinsky lake.
The group goes with cargo horses to Shavlinsky lake, this reduce the weight of the backpack and help for quickly acclimatize. You'll be led by an experienced instructor.
Day 1. Chemal
Group gathering at 8.00 at the railway station of Biysk, at 9.40 at the airport of Gorno-Altaisk city (if requested, we can meet you at the international airport of Novosibirsk or Barnaul).
We will drive you to the campsite, located near the Katun river bench, next to Ust-Sema village.
got some time to relax after the flight, prepare your stuff for the travel (touristic tent, sleeping bag, etc) and strike up an acquaintance with the other members of the group. This day is for relaxing after a flight, meeting with other member of the group, getting and fitting personal equipment, prepare your stuff for the travel (touristic tent, sleeping bag, etc).
Day 2. Chuya Highway - Saraguljuk lake
Today we leave Chemal district, setting off for Chuya highway and drive to the the White Bom village, where change the minibus for Russian off-road car. On the car we will drive to the Sarakuljuk lake.
Since today you'll sleep in touristic camps in a touristic tent.
Day 3. Saraguljuk valley - Yankan mountain pass - Karakol lake
After breakfast you will have a trekking along the Saraguljuk river valley to the Yankan mountain pass (the pass has no difficulty category), from the pass we will going down to the Karakol lake, where we will have a camp
Trekking distance: 18 kilometers.
Day 4. Tamerlane pass - Kazan-Kol lake
Today we are going to ascend the Tamerlane pass (the pass has no difficulty category) and reach the Kazan-Kol lake (translating as Star Lake) Trekking distance: 20 kilometers.
Day 5. Lower Shavlinsky lake.
Today we have to cross the Airash ravine, Shabaga and Shavla river for reach the Lower Shavlinsky lake.
Trekking distance: 17 kilometers.
Day 6. Higher Shavlinsky lake.
This and the next days the camp stays at the Lower Shavlinsky lake. Today We leave our staffs here and have a radial trekking to the Higher Shavlinsky lake.
Day 7. Abyl-Oyuk mountain Pass.
We leave our staffs in the camp and have a radial trekking to the Abyl-Oyuk mountain Pass observe view point.
Day 8. Lower Shavlinsky mountain pass - Maashey valley
Today we are going to ascend the Lower Shavlinsky mountain pass (the pass has 1B difficulty category (according Russian Pass classification system)) and moving down to the Maashey valley.
Trekking distance: 12 kilometers.
Day 9. Maashey valley - Karakabak river
Today we are going to have trekking along the Maashey valley throw the dead Maashey lake (the lake has died in 2012, nature dam has been destroyed and the water from the lake poured out within a few hours, destroying everything in its path).
We are going to the estuary of the Karakabak river.
Trekking distance: 15 kilometers.
Day 10. Karakabak lakes
We are going up about 7 kilometers to the Karakabak lakes.
Trekking distance: 7 kilometers.
Day 11. trekking to the glacier
We leave our staffs in the camp and have a radial trekking to the glacier.
Day 12. The Chuya river valley
Today we leave our camp on the Karakabak lakes and have a trekking to the valley of the Chuya river.
Day 13. Chuya Highway
We will drive you to back along the Chuya highway to the base campsite. Here you'll get a rest and have Russian bania. Driving distance: 250 kilometers.
Day 14. Depart.
Today is finishing your adventure in Altai mountains.
After an early breakfast, we will drive you to the Gorno-Altaisk airport.
Drive distance: 50 kilometres.
As an extra option, we can drive you to the railway station of Biysk on the evening train (the price is 35 EUROS per person. drive distance: 150 kilometres).
A Cabin house near Ust-Sema village
A Cabin house located on the Katun river bench. It has 2 floors. There are 3 rooms and a bathroom on each floor, also, there is 1 hall with a kitchen.
On request, we can offer you an improved accommodation for these days (available as an extra option).
The international flights arrive in Novosibirsk - the biggest city of Siberia. In case you arrive there, you will need to have one day before the tour and one day upon its completion for the transfer. Biysk and Novosibirsk are cities, connected by a branch of Trans-Siberian railway. We can organize a transfer by train or by car to the starting endpoint of the tour.
